Our Stewardship

Promoting open dialogue and public participation

We are a board of seven trustees, elected every three years at the same time as mayors and councilors. Our Board takes its stewardship role in representing Rocky View students and communities very seriously. Our approach to governance is to cultivate an environment that promotes open dialogue and participation.

2017/18 Board meetings

The Board generally holds public meetings on the first and third Thursday of each month during the school year. All members of the public are invited to attend these meetings, which commence at 10 a.m. and are held in the board room at the Education Centre at 2651 Chinook Winds Drive, SW, Airdrie, AB. The board meeting agenda and copies of the reports (in PDF format) are posted to Rocky View Schools' corporate site at Board Agenda & Minutes.

You also can access a summary of each Board Meeting through RVS' publication Replay. For the 2017/18 School Year, Board Meetings will be held on:

Delegations/petitions to the Board

The Board is interested in hearing presentations on school matters by individuals and groups, and welcomes the opportunity such presentations afford the Board to become familiar with the thinking of citizens on school affairs. The Board’s purpose in listening to such presentations is to consider community-initiated requests, to have issues clarified, and to secure opinions, ideas, and information useful to the Board in reaching decisions. Deciding the course of action to be followed by the Board in connection with the matter or matters thus presented is the prerogative of the Board and may be delayed to a subsequent meeting of the Board.

All requests to make presentations to the Board shall be in writing and shall be filed with the Superintendent or Secretary-Treasurer at least (nine) 9 days prior to the Board meeting at which it is desired that the presentation be heard. Procedures guiding this process can be located on RVS' corporate site under Board Policy 7 Board Operations (Section 9). Individuals and small groups who would like to speak personally to any of the Trustees can make an appointment through the Trustees' Office at 403.945.4002 or by contacting the Trustee directly.
